Count me among the folks who was not sorry...
to see Jerry Falwell pass on. His delusional Christian mysticism, bigotry, and rampant xenophobia, all set the tone for the transformation of the Republican party into what it is today. I'm also no great fan of Chris Hitchens either, whose Iraq war cheerleading has made him one of the finest examples of chickenhawk ever produced by the right wing intellectual mindset. However, I must give him credit for his absolute excoriation of the late Mr. Falwell on the Hannity & Colmes show the other day. As an added bonus he took a couple of shots at Ralph Reed as well, who was also on as a guest opposite him. My favorite line is at the very end, when Hitchens states of Falwell, "if that man had an enema, he could've been buried in a matchbox." Peep the video below:
