Recent polling data...
A recent Newsweek poll shows that 53% of Americans hope the Democrats take control of Congress this fall(good for you America). Even more damning is that 9% of self described Republicans held this view. Bush, riding a recent approval surge up to a whopping 37(in a row)%,is going to be a huge factor in this election. 62% of those polled stated that their impression of Bush was important to how they voted for Congress(35% said very important, 27% said somewhat important). As it stands now, terrorism is the only issue on which the GOP polls better than the Dems and that is just 5 point edge(44 to 39). By comparison the GOP held a 23 point edge in that category before the 2002 mid term elections. Fully 62 percent of Americans disapprove of the president's handling of the situation in Iraq—including 24 percent of Republicans; 59 percent disapprove of his handling of the economy, including 20 percent of Republicans. On every issue other than terrorism and homeland security, the Dems win. Americans trust them to do a better job than the Republicans handling:
The situation in Iraq: 45 to 39(Thought it would be higher)
The economy: 53 to 34(duh)
Health care: 56 to 26('pubs don't do health care)
Gas and oil prices: 52 to 25(this could be significant)
Stem-cell research: 52 to 29(yeah, that veto was a REAL good idea)
Federal spending and the deficit: 53 to 29(double duh)
I refuse to believe that even the Dems can screw up these numbers. If the Dems don't take back Congress this year and the difference is districts using Diebold machines, I will be screaming FRAUD, loud and proud.
