It all started when somebody decided that the best way to celebrate their faith was to place the fish symbol commonly associated with Jesus on the back of their car. And the Religious Right looked on and said it was good(for raising money at least).



After a steadily building accumulation of said car bourn Jesus fish somebody else decided that the overwhelming scientific consensus in favor of Darwin deserved it's own ubiquitous symbol, and thus evolved:



And this angered the Religious Right, how dare someone mock the symbol of the Lord with this tawdry imitation. Don't these heathens know their Bible? That part about not worshipping false idols. Besides everyone knows the Earth is only 6000 years old and that God created everything as is. Since the Bible makes no mention of evolution it must be a sin, which led us to this witty response:



But the forces of evolution would not take this lying down. 6000 years old, pshaw! Human history ranges about 6000 years but the planet is millions of years old. Just look at the carbon dating! Besides how do you explain all those dinosaur fossils? There's no mention of them in the Good Book, yet clearly they existed. Aggravated at this challenge to the innate wisdom of natural selection yet another variation was created:



Unfortunately these symbols all have proved divisive. Who says the answers are all faith based or all scientific? Why can't we have both? Wouldn't evolution have been a good tool by which God could create existence? Just because I believe in God doesn't mean I have to oppose evolution. And on the other hand evolution doesn't automatically preclude the existence of God. The odds of man evolving into our current state unaided, are so remote as to suggest that their well should be divine influence. Regardless of your own beliefs a little more decorum in this battle over our origins would be nice. And then maybe we can see displays like this one:
